Furniture delivery

In our long experience, deliveries are the one area where you get what you pay for! We know that the vast majority of post-sales complaints are related to delivery problems. These problems range from scheduling and timing changes, through to damage to property, such as scratches to floors and scrapes on walls. Occasionally the furniture being delivered is damaged – usually when access is harder, or tighter, than initially anticipated. Cheap is definitely not cheerful in these instances.

A search online shows several retailers offer ‘free delivery’, probably achieved by building the delivery costs into the price of their products. That is something we didn’t feel was appropriate to do. So, as our products are distributed by couriers who charge by the cubic meter, we have priced accordingly. 

For each item delivered within the UK Mainland we have a flat standard charge, based on a local or national tariff. All prices are inclusive of VAT:

Having decided to make a delivery charge, we have elected not to scrimp on the quality of the service through achieving slightly lower delivery charges. Therefore we have contracted with a national delivery furniture specialist with a reputation for providing a high quality service. All of our orders, whether they are online, in-store or via telephone or email, are handled by the same contractor who will:

  • Contact you prior to delivery to book a mutually convenient date for your furniture delivery, reserving a morning or afternoon slot.
  • Notify you if there are delays to your order, or changes to delivery expectations.
  • Follow up with a pre-delivery telephone call will confirm the morning or afternoon slot to ensure that you are able to receive your furniture as scheduled.
  • Deliver your furniture to the room of your choice, using a ‘white-glove’ two-man delivery crew. The delivery crew will do everything reasonably possible to deliver your furniture to where you want it. However, if space is tight, please do bear in mind that it is your responsibility to ensure that the delivery specialists can gain access to the room of your choice.
  • Provide assistance where basic assembly is necessary (such as screwing legs on sofas/sofa beds; attaching bolt-on arms etc).

Your delivery will be unpacked and the packaging removed for environmental disposal, should you so wish. 

Once in situ, you will be asked to inspect your furniture and to sign that you have done so.

Sourcing and environmental policy

Seriously Sofas Limited is passionate about supporting the UK upholstery manufacturing industry, especially well regarded, established independents, primarily to ensure these trades can be viably sustained for future generations.

Seriously Sofas Limited is committed to leading the UK retail industry in minimising the impact of its activities on the environment.  In order to practice what we preach we will:

  • clearly state where our products are manufactured within the United Kingdom (as this drives the ‘product miles’ each item incurs)
  • supplement our UK products with products manufactured within mainland Europe (and no further afield) in order to extend the widest choice to our customers without diluting our commitment to the environment
  • minimise waste by evaluating production and delivery services to ensure they are as environmentally efficient as possible
  • actively encourage recycling internally, and amongst our customers and suppliers.  We are particularly supportive of the environmental disposal of packaging materials and the furniture our products are replacing
  • use various technology as often as possible to reduce paperwork such as brochures, fliers and other marketing materials
  • offer our customers Fairtrade (or equivalent) hot beverages when purchasing in store
  • at least meet, and ideally exceed, all the environmental legislation that relates to our business.

Conditions of sale (shop)

These conditions apply to the sale of goods by Seriously Sofas Limited (“the Company”) and can only be varied in writing signed by a Director of the Company. The laws of England shall apply to this Agreement.

  1. Payment terms
    We will require a deposit of up to 50% of the payment for orders taken in our retail shop, by telephone, email and/or fax. The balance due (plus storage fees, if any) must be paid before delivery or collection can be made. Cheques require a minimum of five working days for clearance prior to the release of goods for delivery or collection. We reserve the right to take the final balance payment for goods using the original payment if we are unable to establish contact prior to delivery. We accept all major credit and debit cards except American Express and Diners Club. If you pay by credit, charge or debit card, the transaction will be handled for you by RBS WorldPay to whom you will pay a handling charge of 2.5% of the transaction amount. The balance of the transaction amount will be paid to Seriously Sofas Limited trading as Seriously Sofas. The total amount payable by you regardless of the method of payment is the same.
  2. Prices
    All prices include VAT, where appropriate, at the prevailing rate and are subject to any promotional offer or discount. Delivery charges are calculated on the type and number of Products to be delivered within all UK Mainland postcodes.
  3. Product Specifications
    We have a policy of continuous Product development and reserve the right to amend the specification of Products without prior notice in relation to future sales. Products supplied may differ as a consequence from those on display or advertised. Unless agreed with you, the Product(s) supplied will be of equivalent value, functionality and appearance. Any significant variations will be highlighted on the display model.
  4. Completion Dates
    Time of delivery is not of the essence in this Agreement. We will not be liable for any direct or indirect loss of profits or other financial loss or damage suffered by you through any reasonable delay or delay due to unforeseen circumstances outside of the reasonable control of Seriously Sofas Limited or delay due to any reasonable rescheduling of delivery.
  5. Delivery & Measurements
    You will be contacted to arrange a delivery date when your furniture has been dispatched from the manufacturer. If you are unable, for whatever reason, to take delivery of your Product(s) on the confirmed delivery date, we will charge you 10% of the value of your order for any subsequent deliveries. If we accidentally damage Product(s) in the course of delivery, then our liability for that damage is limited to the repair, refund or replacement of the Product(s) or the value thereof. It is your responsibility to ensure that the Product(s) ordered will pass freely through into your room of choice. Please note that the delivery charge includes no allowance for the removal of doors, windows or other fixtures unless specifically stated on your order form. It may be necessary for a delivery specialist to visit your home and carry out this work. You should allow a reasonable amount of time for this work to be carried out and any work will be subject to an additional charge. The measurements of all our Products will be as accurate as possible, but are nevertheless approximate.
  6. Storage
    You must take delivery of your Product(s) within one (1) month of being advised by us that they are ready for delivery or collection. Thereafter we reserve the right to charge a storage fee of £25 per week or part thereof per item. This fee will be deducted from the total monies received from you at that date on a weekly basis thereby increasing the balance which is payable prior to delivery or collection. In the event that the accumulating storage fee shall exceed the total amount of monies we have received from you, we will terminate this Agreement without notice. At such point we will put the Product(s) into stock for resale and retain all monies received by way of liquidation and ascertained damage.
  7. Liability & Guarantees
    The provisions of this clause apply in addition to your statutory consumer rights in relation to faulty or inaccurately described Product(s). These rights are not affected by our guarantee. Unless stated otherwise in the Product Description, all Products carry a 5-year frame and construction guarantee against faulty workmanship and/or faulty materials. Guarantees may not be assigned to a third party. These guarantees do not cover fair wear and tear, neglect, abuse or misuse of your Product(s), loss or damage (including rusting and corrosion) due to unreasonable exposure to water or weather; loss or damage due to fire, smoke, explosion, lightning, sunlight, infestation by animals or boring insects, or theft, or accidental damage or loss caused by a third party.
  8. Claims under Guarantee
    In the event you need to make a claim whilst your Product(s) is/are under guarantee, please contact us by phone, on 020 8549 1233, by fax on 020 8549 7353 or by e-mail at info@seriouslysofas.co.uk. We will endeavour to repair the defective Product(s) free of charge. If a repair is not possible you will be offered a replacement and only if a suitable replacement is not available will you be offered a refund. We will not be liable for any direct or indirect loss of profits or other financial loss or damage arising out of defective, damaged or wrongly delivered Product(s), over and above the value of the Product(s) themselves. This does not affect your statutory rights. Our guarantees are limited to Product(s) sold and retained in the United Kingdom, and used solely for Domestic Purposes.
  9. Fabrics & Leathers
    We offer man-made and natural fabrics for our Products. They are described within the Product Description. Fabric batches vary and there may be slight variations between batches. The most common variation is that of colour, though the actual variation is often almost negligible or very slight. We will endeavour to match the colour and texture of the fabric of your Product(s) to the samples chosen as accurately as possible, but variations in both the colour and texture may occur. Leather Products are made from quality natural leather and accordingly they may not be uniform in colour or texture. Only the finest hides are selected but they will show natural marks and scars on the hide. Some leathers will mellow with age and exposure to sunlight and heat. We cannot accept any responsibility for fading or discolouration, due to exposure to direct or indirect sunlight. Sunlight affects different fabrics in different ways, but sunlight, whether direct or indirect, will nevertheless always affect fabric colour. Darker fabrics, because they have further to fall, are likely to discolour and fade more. Different fabrics, dark or light are liable to fade or discolour at different rates. Please also note that there are certain aerosol sprays, most particularly odour neutralisers and nicotine neutralisers that contain certain chemicals that can react with fabric dyes (the cans should warn against spraying close to upholstery without first covering it).
  10. Cancelling or amending orders
    10.1 Bespoke and/or Customised orders
    Once we have accepted an order from you that is for a Bespoke or Customised Product (made or assembled especially for you) you do not have the right to cancel it. It may be possible to amend your order and we will do our best to accommodate such requests. However, there will be a charge according to the amount of alteration and/or additional work involved which we will discuss with you and confirm in writing prior to accepting an amendment to your original contract.
    10.2 Cancelling or amending all other orders 
    You have the right to cancel your order up to 14 days before the delivery date however, if you do so, we shall retain the deposit. Once delivered no Product(s) may be returned nor will we provide any refund unless it is defective or has been accidentally damaged by us in the course of delivery. This does not affect your statutory rights. To cancel a Contract, you must inform us in writing (letter, email or fax but not text message) quoting your order number. We will confirm cancellation, terms and details by email. If you realise you need to amend an order prior to delivery please contact us on 020 8549 1233, quoting your order number. If you amend your order there may be changes to your delivery date or charges and/or the price of the Product(s).
